More information hereAeromoto and Wendy’s Subway present A+WS, a collaboratively curated library and reading room designed by Tyler Polich and Hannah Wilentz, with a specific focus on artist books, periodicals, and exhibition catalogues by Latin American publishers.
In developing subject- or action-specific, idiosyncratic book pairings, A+WS reflects the resonances from one library to another, and from book to the next, and envisions the library as a space for social and artistic practice.
To extend the library’s activity as a space for engagement and dialogue, A+WS has invited artists, writers, publishers, curators, and readers based in Mexico City, New York, and elsewhere, to contribute interventions and responses to the library collection. These interventions take the form of printed matter and ephemera; additions to the catalogue; instructions for modes of reading; performances or micro-lectures; and a limited edition art, poetry, and criticism pamphlet series edited by Rachel Valinsky. These will be exhibited in the Reading Room throughout the fair, and presented on Sunday, May 17th at 1pm as part of NADA’s Special Projects programming.
The reading room’s open hours coincide with NADA New York’s public hours. Readers are encouraged to spend time with the non-circulating collection, and consult with librarians about the publications. The Reading Room’s catalogue can be found on Wendy’s Subway’s website. A limited edition catalogue of the library’s holdings and special publication will be available in summer 2015. Further events concerning the library, as well as a book exchange, will take place in June 2015 at Wendy’s Subway.
Wendy’s Subway is a 24-hour non-profit library and workspace located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. WS hosts a range of public programs, including interdisciplinary readings and screenings, talks and lectures, discussion and reading groups, writing workshops, and free courses. Its non-circulating library holds a collection of books and documents with a special focus on poetry, art, theory, and philosophy, as well as the Raiken Archive, an extensive resource for the study of art history and criticism. WS is operated by its membership of 30+ poets, curators, novelists, artists, and critics with an interest in hybrid forms and cross-disciplinary discourse.
Aeromoto is a public lending library in Mexico City, that people can visit to read and explore books and printed material focused on visual art and contemporary culture. Aeromoto is a space-archive that hosts independent editions with a focus on Mexico and Latin America. Aeromoto dreams of a universal and infinite source of book circulation; a time of shared uses against life privatization.
